I’m working on fluency! My strategy is Practice Common Sight Words
Secret to Success
Site words are the most commonly used English words found in reading. Many of these words are irregular words that do not follow a rule or pattern. Therefore readers will need to see and experience these words over and over again.

Secret to Success
Site words are the most commonly used English words found in reading. Many of these words are irregular words that do not follow a rule or pattern. Therefore readers will need to see and experience these words over and over again.
What to do
- Work with about 5 sight words per week.
- Use them in writing and find them in stories being read.
- Students should practice working with the words in a number of ways (magnet letters, writing them on paper, spelling them in sand, finger paint, etc.)
Language to use:
- “Look at that sentence. Do you see any sight words you recognize?”
- “Look on this page. Let’s go through and identify all the sight words you know so far.”
