Readers who want to improve their vocabulary need to spend a lot of time reading “good-fit books” at school and at home.
When increasing vocabulary, the key to success is increasing the amount of time they read in a book that is interesting and readable.
What you can say or model
Good fit books are ones that are interesting, readable, and understandable for the child.

- Read to the child every day from a wide variety of materials and model a love of reading.
- Set aside a time for reading each day for the child to read materials of his or her choice that is of high interest for the reader.
- Make sure the child is reading a book that is interesting and readable.
