Reading:
Students are expected to read 15-20 minutes nightly at home. Many nights the reading will be assigned. Your child may bring home a new guided reading book or our shared reading anthology. Don't be surprised if your child brings home a book multiple times to reread. Research shows that rereading an instructional level text builds fluency which in turn creates better readers. You can help your child by making sure a self selected book is a good fit book.
Math:
There will be nightly math homework which reinforces what we did in class that day.
Homework is always due the following day. In addition students are expected to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts 2-3 times a week. See Math under Curriculum for practice suggestions.
Word Study:
Word Study is assigned each Monday when our new words are introduced for the week. The homework expectations are outlined on the homework sheet in your child's Word Study bag. Word Study homework is due back to school on Friday.
