Spot and Dot is strategy used to help students read and spell words that are new to them. It works like this:

- Spot and dot the vowels in the word and connect the dots:

- Look for the number of consonants between the vowels.
- If there are two break the consonants.
w i n t e r
- If there is one break after the first vowel.
h o t e l
- If it doesn’t sound right move over one letter.
